Not your typical portrait session

This picture is the result of a laboured effort to actually get a portrait done of all 5 of us.  The difficulties, other than the expense and driving time, are the result of the little boy on the right, our son Easton, who for a reason known only to himself, finds great joy in his parents' futile attempts to catch him on camera.  Just when you think you have him with his dimpled smile, he'll quickly duck his head so you have a fine picture of the top of his head.  Well on this particular day, he was feeling even more particular.  It started when I ducked in the studio with him to get him changed into the painstakingly chosen coordinated outfit.  After 30 minutes of screaming, our session was half over, and I had hardly removed his socks.  I pleaded with him, I begged him, he cried, I almost cried...

Eventually, feeling as though they raised the thermostat to 100 degrees and my hair standing up, I finally had him changed.  We had bested him getting his clothing changed, but dangit he WAS NOT going to allow us to get a picture of him, on principle alone.  His pride was at stake.

After another screaming fit, Donald and I just said, "Hell with it!" and resigned ourselves to forever have a portrait hanging with our son in a pose such as the one above.  The poor photographer was really working her butt off trying to get something to come of all of this.

Finally, the seas parted and we now posess at least ONE portrait of all 5 of us.
